Does OHIP cover the cost of therapy sessions?
Private therapy services provided by Hopscotch Kids are not covered through OHIP. Payment will therefore be provided through extended health benefit plans, private pay,
Ontario Autism Program funding, motor vehicle accident claims, or charitable funding sources.
Will my benefits/insurance cover the cost of therapy?
All insurance plans are different. Some extended health insurance plans include occupational therapy services as a benefit or it may be combined under a category of "allied health". We recommend that you contact your insurance company directly prior to scheduling your appointment as insurance plans have variable coverage for Occupational Therapy.

Can my insurance plan be billed directly?
All services must be paid for after each session with Hopscotch Kids. We highly recommend adding a credit card to your child's profile on our Jane medical records system. Immediately after payment is processed, you will be provided with an electronic receipt that you can submit to your insurance company.
Do I need a Doctor’s referral?
You do not require a Doctor’s referral to attend our services. However, some insurance companies will require a doctor’s referral in order to cover the cost of the service.
How do I know if my child needs therapy?
If you have concerns about your child’s development, we recommend scheduling an assessment with one of our therapists. They will conduct a standardized initial assessment to help determine if therapy is necessary. The results will be discussed with your family, and your occupational therapist will work collaboratively with you and your child to create goals and a treatment plan tailored to your family's needs.
What if I have to cancel a session?
If a session needs to be rescheduled, please give us as much notice as possible. We ask that you provide us with at least 24 hours notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be billed a nominal fee of $25.00. That fee will then be added to our "Hopscotch Angel Fund' which will be used to help children in need who couldn't otherwise afford private therapy.
Do you provide other services and therapies?
Hopscotch Kids provides only Occupational Therapy services by Licensed OT's and Occupational Therapy Support Personnel. We hope to expand and include other disciplines as we grow. However, we are well connected in the paediatric therapy community, so we may be able to assist you in your search for other allied health professionals, such as physiotherapy (PT) or speech-language pathology (SLP) services to complement your child's OT intervention.
